Building in Public: A Solo Founder's First Year

Abhisar Singh on the first year of building Vroq Studio solo — what worked, what didn't, and why staying deliberately small was the right call, not a limitation.

“Always moving” is the phrase I use to describe how I work, and the first year of building Vroq Studio has been the most literal proof of it — building, selling, delivering, and refining the same system, mostly at the same time, mostly alone.

Starting with one real client, not a portfolio of fictions

Vroq’s first flagship case is Dentart Dental Clinic — a real business, a real result, a verified 5-star review. I made a deliberate call early on not to pad the work page with invented case studies to look bigger than the studio actually was. One honest result says more than five fabricated ones, and it’s the only kind of proof that survives someone actually checking.

What surprised me

I expected the hardest part of a solo studio to be the building. It wasn’t. Development is a known process — you can get faster at it, systematize it, use better tools. The harder part was staying disciplined about which projects to take. Every founder-led studio hits the same temptation: take every lead, grow the roster, worry about quality later. I chose the opposite — a deliberately limited number of clients at a time, so every project gets the attention that produced a result like Dentart’s.

What stayed constant

Two things didn’t change from day one: build the whole system, not a piece of it, and build it myself. Website, Google Dominance, SEO, and brand identity, delivered together, by the same person who talked to you on the first call. That discipline is slower to scale than hiring a sales team and a delivery team. It’s also the only version of this business I actually wanted to run.

A studio that stays small on purpose isn’t failing to grow. It’s protecting the thing that made it worth starting.

What year two looks like

More of the same fundamentals, at a higher standard — international clients across the UK, US, Canada, Australia, the UAE, and Singapore, alongside Indian businesses, all getting the same founder-led system. No account managers added. No corners cut to hit volume.

If you’ve been following along or you’re just finding Vroq now, see the work so far, or start a conversation — I still read every message myself.
